Development of World Cities: Lessons for Russia

Summary

World cities in Russia and other countries have different challenges in their development that address the city’s economy, human capital, urban spatial environment, a system of municipal governance. Numerous world rankings place Moscow, is a leader among global cities in Russia, at a relatively high position in their political influence and economic power. However, Moscow’s position in the rankings on the quality of the urban environment, the quality of living is much lower. The situation is similar in other Russian cities.
At the same time in the world has a long experience in improving the urban environment and enhance human capacity in major cities, members of the informal club of the world or global cities. On strategic challenges facing Russian cities, scenarios of development, there are some restrictions and use of available resources and strategic roundtable devoted P8, which is a logical continuation of the round table "The strategic gaps in the development of world cities: post-industrial Answers", held as part of X Forum strategists in 2011
